I would recommend dual booting two Windows installations, one for personal stuff and one for audio. Windows is horrible out of the box, but with some work you can optimise it much more and end up with a much more efficient setup. In my experience of using both for audio - Mac will work well out of the box until it doesn't, and they're a pain in the ass to repair. It CAN run everything you want, but it doesn't always so make real sure before you end up with a useless rig. Between that and previous hard drive errors and blue screens of death, I don't put my music in the hands of Microsoft anymore. I can't access any of my games, it's a known issue for some people, and I have to reboot the entire computer. Meanwhile, on the 2nd drive I am running windows on, will no longer open the steam booter. My current hackintosh build is an i9 9900k intel build and I just haphazardly stack and place plugins anywhere whenever I want, true sandbox mode. Meanwhile, my hackintosh on the same computer from 2013 still auto updates fine lol. I don't do anything but game on it and I have had to reboot my windows computers once every 2 or 3 years for decades now. Also, I've had errors in windows in general. I've ran in to gremlins setting up studios, and no, it's not always just replacing your drivers. Windows CAN run everything nicely but doesn't always. Make sure you test everything you plan on running before your return period is over. I've heard that my Audient iD14 should in theory run fine on windows with their own drivers, so my question is this: are my stability fears justified? How have you found it for your production/mixing needs?

I've heard the horror stories, and I had some weird driver issues way back in 2016 when I started on my PC, which partly led me to buying a MacBook for uni in the first place. I am a little hesitant to run Ableton on a PC. As much as I love Windows for all things gaming and video editing. I'm no stranger to building desktop PCs, and I know with that kind of money I could build myself a screaming fast 8 core Ryzen PC, with plenty of room for upgrades down the line. I'm getting it repaired tomorrow, but I've looked on second-hand mac websites, and it looks like mine could sell for over $2,000. Additionally this thing runs crazy hot, and it has overheated to the point of shutdown after being in clamshell mode for about an hour. For a laptop that I dropped $4,000 on, that just seems ridiculous to me. I've just moved my studio into a dedicated room in my house, and in order to connect everything to my laptop (with its infamous lack of ports) I'd need to shell out $480AUD for a docking station with power delivery.

My 2018 Macbook Pro (2.7GHz i7, 32GB DDR4, Vega 20) has confidently seen me through my three-year long music degree, but it's just died on me, and I suspect the SSD needs to be replaced.

I've been a custom PC builder since I was in high school, and I've been a macOS user for the past 3 years, but my focus for this discussion is on music production specifically.

So I know that this isn't a new topic of discussion, and before we all rip each other to shreds in the comments, I'd like to preface this by saying that I don't really favour one over the other.
